چکیده
Abstract BACKGROUND When preparing for the resection of an intracranial lesion, its borders and optimal approach are often determined using neuronavigation with a tracked pointer. This can sometimes prove challenging, especially deep-seated lesions. Augmented reality (AR) simplify improve this step by directly displaying lesion on patient's skin. METHODS A proprietary inside-out infrared tracking solution was developed, allowing heads-up AR scenes Microsoft HoloLens II without need external camera or computer. We included twenty patients intracerebral planned resection. After semi-automatic hologram-to-patient registration, different participants marked outlines patient’s skin, consecutively aided Brainlab system HoloLens. Each registration both systems provided transform that compared accuracy consistency. Participant performance quantified in terms duration patient delineation, to expert performance. RESULTS delineation were significantly faster than conventional (p = 0.02 p < 0.001, respectively, 0.001 total duration), taking 79.23 ± 17.48 39.58 39.10 seconds while required 96.61 24.54 90.80 44.09 seconds. had offset 3.3mm 3.4°, more consistent neuronavigation. facilitated accurate detailed overestimated size. CONCLUSION provides alternative planning. Lesion intuitive retaining high accuracy. Future research should focus further intraoperative implementations.

Augmented reality in bone tumour resection
OBJECTIVES We evaluated the accuracy of augmented reality (AR)-based navigation assistance through simulation of bone tumours in a pig femur model. METHODS We developed an AR-based navigation system for bone tumour resection, which could be used on a tablet PC. To simulate a bone tumour in the pig femur, a cortical window was made in the diaphysis and bone cement was inserted. A total of 133 ...
متن کاملIntuitive and Lightweight User Interaction for Medical Augmented Reality
The graphical overlay of additional medical information over the patient during a surgical procedure has long been considered one of the most promising applications of augmented reality. While many experimental systems for augmented reality in medicine have reached an advanced state and can deliver high-quality augmented video streams, they usually depend heavily on specialized dedicated hardwa...
متن کاملIntuitive volume classification in medical augmented reality (AR)
A proper classification is a key factor for the successful visualization of 3D medical data. In direct volume rendering applications, the data is classified by means of a transfer function mapping each voxel characteristics to optical properties such as color and opacity, thus highlighting certain regions over others. In a medical scenario, the structures of interest that must be highlighted ma...
متن کاملAn Approach to Augmented Reality Technical Drawings
This paper presents a system based on Augmented Reality (AR) technologies that enables creation of a new class of technical drawings called Augmented Reality Technical Drawings (ARTD). With this system the users wearing a see-trough Head Mounted Display can visualize 3D CAD models co-located with 2D representations. The users have the possibility to translate, rotate and scale the overlaid 3D C...
متن کاملA Magnifying Glass Approach to Augmented Reality Systems
This paper proposes a novel way to realize augmented reality (AR) systems. Unlike previous AR systems, which use head-mounted or head-up displays, our approach employs a palmtop-sized video see-through device to present computer augmented view of the real world. This conguration, which w e call the magnifying glass approach, has several advantages over traditional head-up or head-mounted congur...
